Totally Out of My Comfort Zone

I'm taking the "Doodles Unleashed" free course from Strathmore Artist Studio, taught by Traci Batista and it started out good...

... And then I added the green... and completely lost myself falling out of my comfort zone.

After days and days of going over the painting again and again with Gesso I finally decided to put a face onto the page... even then I was just not feeling right.  I do not know what it is about the process of working with a chaotic doodle design and forming it into some masterpiece that has me so uncomfortable?  I can't get my brain around it!
I should have just left the pink and not added the green... maybe I could have worked with it?

Anyway, I simply added the layer of circles and filled in the flower pattern on the top right hand side and texturized different places on the page... I think I'm done but I still am not completely happy with it!

I think I do not work well with creative chaos!  What do you think?

Well, I hope you are all having a lovely weekend.  Many hugs and blessings to you.

Hi Kelly! I am taking that class too and the doodling has me a bit uncomfortable as well. I think it is fun to work through...but, still uncomfortable!! I love what you did with it! I really like the circles and the pattern on your girl's face. Very interesting!! Wonder what Traci will have for us tomorrow? :)

I just love this doodle. I've doing quite a bit of doodling for the past few weeks and find them so relaxing. It is sometimes demanding that you pull out of your doodle resources to try and make something totally different.

Au contrair mon amie!
I think you did a great job! There is just something about the process of artistic frustration that helps us to identify what and who we are as individual artists....and you discovering that 'chaos' is not your THING ... well, thats a great thing!

I love the colours you layered, and the piece is wonderful despite your inner turmoil! lol

You may have struggled with this, Kelly, however I sure like the outcome - very cool, and it's all yours! Very original and creative. Love the colours. xoDonna

I have to agree with you, Kelly. I much preferred the pink, too. However, the thing about leaving your comfort zone is learning something new! New=imperfection most of the time. I have a theory that if I'm happy with all of my results, I'm not experimenting enough. I've been experimenting a lot lately and not liking a lot of my results, but am I ever having FUN! Much love - can't wait to see more of your workshop pages :o)

Hi Kelly, Thanks for visiting my blog, it's so nice to have someone who understands. I rarely like to mention (the illness), as most just hear whinging instead of me just trying to explain my physical restrictions. I have lost many friends over this, as they just don't want to know, and then still think you are selfish for not joining in everything, or helping as much as they can.
Thanks for the info on what works well for you. I think when I have had a few more sun baths the Vit D gel caps may not give me headaches.
I love what you did in Traci's classes, it is your style/way of doing Traci's art techniques, which I feel is what we should be aiming for, keeping it personalalised. I completely understand about feeling uncomfortable with chaos.
I feel the same, and battle with it too,but I have let myself get "messy" with it, just to see what happens.
